Clearing out the detritus after 25 years in the same house, I needed to tell people that my email address would soon change. Among my list of addressees I saw a number of guys with whom I had shared my formative youth - and that triggered a look at the calendar.  In just a few days time it would be Friday 4th September, 45 years to the day that 123 aspiring technicians arrived in a corner of Cornwall to join the Royal Navy at HMS FISGARD and embark on an artificer apprenticeship.

With 2020 and a 50th anniversary thus on the not too distant horizon, it seemed a good idea to see if anyone might be interested in a reunion event to bring those hopefuls back together - and so began the odyssey.  Enlisting the support of the dozen or so  that I had to hand we began to build a list of names.  Currently numbering just over 80, it is already half way there.  But where are the remaining 50 or so today?  We need to know so that we can start to pull them all together again and see who wants to reflect on the intervening years.  So, if you are, or know someone who was, one of those young hopefuls of 1970, please do get in touch with us so we can include you in our planning for 2020.

This site is all about the men who, as boys, joined HMS Fisgard at Torpoint, Cornwall, on Friday 4th September 1970, to embark on the finest apprenticeship ever delivered.  The rest, as they say, is history ……………

If you were a 703 Entry artificer Apprentice, you may establish contact with us using the Enquiry Form on our “Contact Us” page, or by email at 703 Enquiries.

We also boast a Facebook page, for those who are willing and able to overcome their Facebook phobias, where we have begun to share information and photographs relevant to our Fisgard entry.  It does offer an easy access and means of maintaining contact and we would encourage you to use it as a routine port of call as we grow our contacts and start to plan and prepare for 2020.  You never know, we may even plan and prepare for something earlier, just to make sure the big one goes swimmingly.
